Shayna earned a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Expressive and Creative Arts from Salve Regina University. Shayna is passionate about working with children, teens, and their families. Her experience as a caregiver for two young children along with being a child-life specialist volunteer at Hasbro Children’s Hospital started her career path to becoming a child therapist.
Shayna’s clinical experience began at Emma Pendleton Bradley Hospital, the nation’s first children’s psychiatric hospital affiliated with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, as a Behavioral Health Specialist at the hospital’s Pediatric Anxiety Research Center (PARC). In this role, Shayna provided treatment for children with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and selective mutism) by utilizing exposure-based cognitive behavioral therapy.
In addition to her work at PARC, Shayna has held other clinical roles through Bradley Hospital, including being a counselor and group facilitator at a DBT-A residential program for adolescent females struggling with mood disorders and counselor and group facilitator at The Bradley School, a therapeutic day school for children and adolescents whose psychiatric and behavioral needs cannot be met in a public-school setting.
Shayna’s more recent clinical experience consists of being a diagnostician and group facilitator for select Chicago Catholic Schools, where she conducted evaluations, and led a mind-body and movement-based group for students, and created treatment plans to help improve their overall learning experience. In addition, she has over two years of private practice experience prior to working at Sage Counseling Collective. Shayna feels that private practice is where she wants to continue to as a child therapist because of the ability she has to build and maintain long lasting therapeutic relationships with her clients and their families.
Shayna primarily works with children and teens struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD, and autism. She utilizes a range of therapeutic interventions. She will integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Prevention (CBT/ERP), Exposure therapy can be best described as a type of therapy where the therapist gradually helps the individual face their fears in a safe environment and break the anxious cycle of avoidance and excessive worry. In addition, Shayna utilizes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Art and Play therapy, and person-centered therapy. Shayna hopes to provide all her clients with patient-centered care and bring notable improvements to patients’ and their families’ everyday lives.
Shayna prioritizes self-care. She enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, spending time in nature, taking yoga and pilates classes, and being with her black lab Rose.
